There are several scholarships available for Indian students to study in the UK,:
UK government scholarships
- Chevening Scholarships,
- Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship,
- Scotland Saltire Scholarships.
- Full-funding scholarships are available that cover the entire course fee, cost of living, and return flights to the UK.
University-specific scholarships: Many UK universities offer their own scholarships for Indian students, often merit-based. Examples include:
- University of East Anglia: UEA India Award, which offers a guaranteed £4,000–£5,000 for postgraduate students
- Lancaster University: Global Scholarship for all postgraduate courses, which offers £5,000
- University of Greenwich: PG Scholarship, which offers up to £1,500
- Cardiff University: Vice-Chancellor Scholarship, which offers £2,000
Commonwealth Scholarships: These scholarships are offered under six CSC development themes, and there is no restriction on what you can study.
Felix Scholarships: These scholarships are for academically outperforming and disadvantaged students from India and other developing countries. The Felix Scholarship Trust offers up to six scholarships each year. The objective The Felix Scholarship aims to stimulate scholars by exposing them to academic study, cultures, experiences and friendships that they would not otherwise have had the chance to sample. The Scholarships are open to: Academically gifted and underprivileged nationals of India, who must hold at least a first class Bachelor's degree from a recognised Indian university or a comparable institution; or It is hoped that this in turn will endow them with skills and visions, enabling them, when returning to their country of origin, to contribute to the culture and welfare of their home communities.
GREAT Scholarships: These scholarships are available at participating UK universities for the 2024-25 academic year. Each scholarship is jointly funded by the UK government’s GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council with participating UK higher education institutions. A GREAT scholar must be:
- Be a citizen of India.
- Have an undergraduate degree, be motivated and have an interest in the proposed subject area.
- Meet the English language requirement of the UK university.
- Establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment.
- Be willing to attend a networking event for all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.
- Be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and their HEI and act as an ambassador for teh GREAT scholarships.
- As an alumnus of the GREAT scholarships, be willing occasionally to speak to potential candidates about his or her own experience of studying in the UK.
